A Kenya Airways flight, KQ3, from New York has been diverted to Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport amid a runway closure at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The flight was expected at 10.30 am Monday.

KQ205 from India's Mumbai, scheduled to arrive at JKIA at 10.50 am, was similarly impacted by the runway closure caused by an attempted cargo landing that reported a mechanical issue. The flight was listed as "delayed" in its status.

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said in a statement that the event at JKIA had triggered the runway closure as they work to resolve the problem.

The management staff at the airport emphasised that everyone's safety is their first priority.

“We are fully committed to the safety of all travelers and are collaborating closely with the appropriate authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible,” the KAA stated.

According to early information, the takeoff of Singapore Airlines flight SQ7343 from Nairobi to Amsterdam was cancelled due to significant engine damage brought on by a bird hit.
