Travelers using the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) are set to pay an additional Kes 500 to Kes 1,500 to travel between Nairobi and Mombasa from January 1 2024.
According to Kenya Railways (KRA), a one-way trip from the capital city of Kenya to the coastal town on an economy class will go up to Kes 1,500 from Kes 1,000 before.
On the other hand, first-class users will be hit the hardest since they will be parting away with Kes 4,500 one way from Kes 3,000 currently.
In a statement, the company attributed the increase in charges to the current high fuel prices, which have pushed up operational costs.
