Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) has appointed Engineer Martin Dzombo Munga as its new Director General effective Friday, December 15.
He takes over from John Omingo, who served as the acting Director General for 18 months.
KMA Chairperson Hamisi Mwaguya said the Board settled on Munga because of extensive international expertise in the maritime and shipping sectors, especially across Europe.
Munga, a renowned naval architect and ocean engineer, has a wealth of knowledge from his positions at prestigious companies, including Siemens AG, Airbus at Finkenwerder in Hamburg, Germany; Beluga Shipping (GMBH) in Bremen, Germany; and Kroger Werft GMBH & Co. KG in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Munga completed his training at GFN Training in Hamburg, Germany, and now holds a Master's in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Bremen University of Applied Sciences. He is also a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer.
Mwaguya expressed confidence in Munga’s diverse experience and visionary leadership, anticipating that it will be crucial in achieving KMA’s strategic goals.
“The board is confident that Mr. Munga’s diverse experience and visionary leadership will be instrumental in achieving KMA’s strategic goals,” he said.
KMA is set to host a press briefing on Monday, December 18, to unveil Engineer Munga as the new Director General.
