The Betting and Control Licensing Board (BCLB) has committed to refraining from promoting betting, lotteries, and gaming activities through the "Speed Dial" feature on different web browsers.

The order was decided upon by BCLB and the other parties in a mutual consent agreement filed with the court; the hearing on the other outstanding issues was scheduled for May of this year.

"That the Betting Control and Licensing Board does and is hereby directed that all gaming operators to cease the use of speed dial feature forthwith," reads the consent.

The Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) filed a lawsuit against BCLB, claiming that betting companies were targeting Kenyan internet users indiscriminately with this feature.

The use of the feature, according to COFEK, puts kids in danger and causes irreversible harm, which runs counter to the government's campaign to protect kids online.
