Tembea Tujenge Kenya brand ambassador, Maina Kageni has urged Kenyans to embrace domestic tourism stating that it is the main driving force of the travel and tourism sector.

Kageni said that the tourism sector largely depends on domestic tourists, saying that they are using the Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative to open up new tourism destinations in the country.

Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru, and Mombasa have been listed as the supportive counties that have embraced the initiative.

According to Tembea Tujenge Kenya's CEO, Andrew Kanyuto, they have so far visited 27 counties and want to visit the other 20 in 2023.

They will travel to the county of Nyeri on January 27. Kenyans have been urged to participate in the welcoming and value-driven packages provided to them in order to raise the bar for domestic travel.

Kanyuto added that the Tembea Tujenge Kenya will now expand to the East African region after accelerating its domestic tourism boom over the last two years.

Targeted nations include Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda.

‘’We have extended the same concept in the region where we are looking at signing East Africa as a block,’’ Kanyuto said.

Further, the CEO said the Tembea Tujenge Kenya initiative was able to achieve 67,000 bed capacity last year that enabled them to sell jobs in the hospitality industry.

Kanyutu has also called upon the private sector to support the initiative, which has received a boost from Safaricom, Isuzu East Africa, Tourism Fund, Sarova Hotels, Vivo energy, Presidential Delivery Unit among others.

The Tembea Tujenge Kenya is an initiative aimed at promoting Domestic Tourism to impact counties economic growth within the counties.
