The Kenya Power and Lightning Company (KPLC) on March,6 cut off electricity to Kongowea Market and Mombasa County offices over a debt accumulating to Kes120 million.

On the power outage at the Coast General Hospital and its environs, the power supplier blamed faulty equipment that resulted from a flashover on the unit supplying electricity to the hospital.

“On Tuesday, 7th March 2023, a line supplying power to tripped and upon restoration, the hospital remained without supply because of faulty equipment,” KPLC said in a statement.

Further, the Company lamented that the situation was not rectified immediately, as they were unable to access the site because the Mombasa County officials impounded its vehicles following the disconnections that had been done on Monday.

Nonetheless, it says power was successfully restored to the hospital on the same day

at 7.15 p.m.

However, the company says it regrets the incident and takes apologises to the hospital for any inconvenience caused.

At the same time, the Company wishes to reiterate that protection of life, in whatever form is our top priority,” read part of the statement.
