Given the huge demand for the product, maize and wheat flour producer Kitui Flour Mills has expanded into edible cooking.
The producer of Unga wa Dola (wheat and maize flours) enters a competitive market with companies like Pwani Oil and Fresh Fry.
Kitui Flour Mills Finance Director Anwar Bajber noted that the company will produce edible oil at its Vipingo plant in Kilifi County, boosting the local economy.
“We are pleased to launch Dola cooking oil which demonstrates our commitment to the Kenyan market as a company rooted in Kenya for over 50 years,” he said.
According to market research firm Research and Markets, the income of Kenya's edible oil market is predicted to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.37 per cent between 2023 and 2028, while volume is predicted to increase at a pace of 4.75 per cent.
Urbanisation, population increase, and post-pandemic economic rebound will benefit retail.
Further, he said the company will continue to invest in and grow with Kenya, with a common vision of a safe, dynamic and innovative path forward in the food sector.
“We are keen to continue to identify and pursue opportunities to do so working with our partners and stakeholders,” Bajber added.
