Ride-hailing company Uber has collaborated with the Kenya Traffic Police to enhance road safety in Nairobi.
The company says this is part of its ongoing commitment to ensure customers' safety.
In the partnership, the two entities will roll out several initiatives to raise awareness about road safety for drivers on the Uber platform.
It comes after the Ministry of Transport rolled out new measures to ensure road safety in the wake of recent road accidents in the country.
Among the measures are heightened surveillance on unroadworthy vehicles and a close working relationship with the Interior Ministry to arrest reckless drivers.
“Drivers should avoid using their phones while driving, speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and driving without, or carrying passengers who are not, wearing safety belts,” said Kipchumba Murkomen, Cabinet Secretary for Transport.
Plans are also underway to give Uber drivers stickers, which will easily identify them.
Further, the Kenyan police have also rolled out a plan to conduct road safety training between police and Uber drivers.
