Rwandese ride-hailing platform YEGO Mobility has partnered with Coast region taxi drivers under the Coastal Region Drivers’ Associations to improve their welfare.

This comes when taxi drivers in the country have decried low fares, high commissions, poor earnings, no savings, long working hours, a lack of security, insurance, and several other challenges for a long time.

During the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the firm said the partnership promises unprecedented benefits to both Passengers and Drivers by bringing about transparency, visibility and accountability.

Increasingly Passengers have been frustrated by booking a ride via an App and then having to negotiate the fare. If the higher fare were unacceptable, the Driver would cancel the ride or not show up, throwing the passenger’s plans into disarray, leading to missed appointments, trains and even flights.”

YEGO Mobility will also work with the associations to add taxicab vehicle categories, such as women-only, daily or weekly rental, and luxury vehicles.

“The MoU enshrines that YEGO will work with the Driver Associations to improve the overall taxi experience for Passengers,” Yego added.

“This includes personal grooming, vehicle maintenance, cleanliness of vehicles, making it easier and safer for passengers to book rides, providing more transparency around fares, lower cancellations, and ensuring that passengers are treated courteously and with respect.”
