Bamburi Cement has partnered with International Finance Corporation (IFC) to empower women-owned businesses in procurement.
The partnership will see more than 200 women businesses acquire training on procurement rules and procedures and eligibility criteria in the procurement field.
The Cement manufacturer says it is keen on promoting gender inclusivity when accessing procurement contracts.
Bamburi company CEO Mohit Kapoor noted that many women-owned Small and Medium Enterprises face challenges navigating local complex corporate value chains due to poor credit muscle and lack of information.
“We are committed to providing a lasting solution that promotes equitable competition for supply contracts and desire to see this outcome both within Bamburi Cement and across the industry at large, which is predominantly male-dominated.”
Babmburi Cement Supply Chain Director Moses Were noted that the company aspires to ensure 30 per cent of its procurement goes to women-owned businesses, youths, and persons with disabilities by 2025.
“And from these training sessions, we hope that more women businesses will express interest in our supply chain to help us grow their share by 10%.”
