The Tourism Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced plans to stop illegal spas and wellness facilities masquerading in the sectors.
This comes a day after the regulator launched the National Spa and Wellness Standard in Nairobi.
TRA Director General Norbet Talam said that the standards will professionalize and improve the sector's reputation, which unqualified providers have degraded.
Further, he noted that with the standards and the association in place, the sector will offer competitive services up to global standards.
“We must all roll out these standards in our facilities across the 47 counties in the country,” he said.
The standard is a thorough collection of norms and recommendations created especially for the Kenyan market.
It will act as a baseline for professionals in the field, giving them a plan to deliver great services while upholding global quality standards.
The Spa and Wellness Association of Kenya (SWAK), a group representing the industry, was also established at the event.
SWAK Chairperson Winnie Taylor expressed her excitement with the launch of the SPA and Wellness Association of Kenya (SWAK) to elevate the country’s spa and wellness industry.
“Kenya possesses an abundance of natural beauty and resources that provide the perfect backdrop for unparalleled wellness experiences,” Taylor said.
SWAK will play a vital role in promoting best practices, fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders, and raising awareness about the immense benefits of the spa and wellness sector.
