Google has announced the appointment of Alex Okosi to lead its operations in Africa, effective September 5, 2023.

Okosi takes over as the tech firm’s new Managing Director (MD).

Okosi served as MD for YouTube in the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region before his appointment.

In his new position, he will be in charge of Google's operations in Africa, including programs to boost economies and enterprises and increase access to and offer tools for the next billion people to maximize their Web use.


Google EMEA Emerging Markets Vice President Meir Brand noted that Alex is a proven leader with a wealth of experience in the media and technology industries.

"He has a deep understanding of African countries and a passion for using technology to empower people and businesses,” he said.

Okosi is an accomplished leader in media, entertainment, and technology.

Before joining YouTube, he was the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of BET International and Viacom International Media Networks Africa.

Okosi played a critical role in directing the growth and expansion of the platform across Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey in his most recent job at YouTube.
