The National Assembly Committee on Education has called Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, to appear.

Machogu is scheduled to meet with the MPs to inquire about the consequences of an announcement made at the last minute about changes to school openings.

The MPs anticipate that Machogu will discuss how the changes affect the term dates.

The Ministry of Education modified the dates of school openings on Monday.

Students who were supposed to attend classes on Monday, April 29, were instructed to begin on May 6, 2024.

At approximately one in the morning, a ministry circular was distributed. The public was outraged by this because of how timely the communication was.

Some parents were not happy with the timing of the communication because some students had already started their school travels.

Many students were observed stuck in bus stations on Monday morning.

The ongoing flooding caused the Education Ministry to postpone the start of classes.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced the postponement and stated that the ministry had instructed field officers to provide data from all Basic Education Learning Institutions across the nation that had reported negative impacts from the heavy rains.

"Several schools in various regions of the country have been adversely affected by the rains, according to reports received at the Ministry of Education and corroborated with data from other relevant Government agencies," Machogu said.

The Minister would later defend his choice, arguing that student safety came first even though the message was timely.
