More than 3,000 needy students in secondary schools and universities are set to benefit from Kes 28 million in the Lugari constituency.
One hundred sixty-six secondary school and university orphans will each benefit from a four-year full scholarship courtesy of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking during the cheque disbursement exercise yesterday at Maturu primary school in Matete Sub County, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera said he is determined to fulfil his campaign promise of transforming the constituency's education sector.

"Today as we gather here, we have paid a whole year's school fees for total orphans in secondary schools and universities. They will fully be sponsored for the four years they will be schooling," Nabwera stated.
He pleaded with the pupils to honour the sponsorship by doing well in school and urged parents and guardians to take responsibility for their children now that the issue of paying for school has been resolved.
Nabwera condemned the poor results of the Lugari Constituency schools in the national exams and urged coordinated efforts from all parties involved.
Only three "A-minus" grade pupils from 101 secondary schools in the area were produced in the KCSE last year, according to the first-time MP.
Although he said that the KCSE results were the worst in his district, he praised secondary school principals for upholding honesty and forbidding cheating on exams.
Elsie Muhanda, a member of parliament representing Kakamega County Woman, praised Nabwera for speaking out vehemently in favour of the area's educational system.
She committed to supporting her colleague's initiatives by using the National Government Affirmative Fund.
