More than 5700 high school students from Kajiado North Sub County have been issued bursaries to cater for their school fees this term, with each student receiving Kes 5,000.
This puts the total amount dispatched in the first batch in the Sub County at Kes 28, 500, 000, with the bursary program expected to provide a partial scholarship program already in place.
Speaking in Ngong while issuing the cheques to the students, Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo said they are currently experiencing budget constraints and will not take new students into the program as of now.
“Due to budget constraints, we will not be taking new applicants into the program. Moving forward however we will be engaging schools so that bursaries are issued directly to schools with an aim of streamlining the process,” said the MP.
Ngogoyo also said that monies for tertiary institutions will be issued at a later date and assured parents that the money will be shared fairly among all the needy students.
Present was Ngong Township Head Teacher Mr Kisiu Telia who stated that the bursaries are beneficial to the students, and thanked the Members of Parliament who fought for the sustenance of the program.
“We are happy about the issuance of bursaries to our needy students and are more grateful to Hon. Ngogoyo for coming through to help parents with the burden of school fees. It shows that he cares about our children’s education,” said Mr Kisiu Telia.
