Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the Competency Base Curriculum(CBC) was rushed without proper public participation.
Speaking during a roundtable with the media, Gachagua noted that the Country was not ready for the curriculum since it is a paradigm shift in the Country’s education system in terms of the curriculum, teachers and facilities.
“The country was not ready, it was rushed,” he stated.
However, the DP noted that the government is not going to do away with the curriculum and assured Kenyans of reforms through the Presidential Working Party on Educational Reforms
“There are good elements in CBC but there are issues that require serious reforms. We have agreed as a government we are not doing away with CBC but there are going to be tremendous reforms,” he stated

Gachagua also called out the former Uhuru Kemnyatta’s administration for failing to carry out proper public participation concerning the CBC curriculum.
“The former CS for Education Amina Mohammed had suggested we wait for a while, but the former President could hear none of it. He ordered for the CBC roll out and as a result it was rushed,” he said.
This comes a week after Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu stated that more than 15,000 learners were yet to report to Junior Secondary Schools.
“From the enrolment percentage, we still have 15,640 learners who are yet to report JSS,” he said.
The CS was speaking in Kisii County where he is leading the multi-agency team in the mop-up exercise to achieve 100% transition for grade 7 under JSS and form one.
“I want to urge all Kenyans to be patient as the learners are on transition and to avoid any panic as the Government is fully prepared. The information going round depicting learning in public JSS to be inferior or less from that of private JSS is not true,” said the CS.
He pointed out that the evaluation results of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) 2022 which was done by the learners who are now in grade 7 showed that public schools did very well.
Machogu said capitation for public JSS will be released anytime since registration of learners has been done to ascertain the number of learners who have already reported to each school.
