Rishi Sunak assured his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu of London's steadfast support after the Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked the country.
Sunak posted "We stand with Israel" on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday evening, and the blue and white Israeli flag was projected onto the exterior of 10 Downing Street.
"I have just spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu to assure him of the UK's steadfast support as Israel defends itself against these appalling attacks," Sunak said from his official country residence, Chequers.

"We will do everything we can to assist." Terrorism will fail," he added.
Since the Iran-backed Hamas launched the multi-pronged assault at dawn on Saturday, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed on both sides, with Israeli soldiers engaging holdout terrorists and hammering the Gaza Strip with air strikes.
Sunak, according to a Downing Street spokesman, gave Netanyahu "any support Israel requires."
The British prime minister also "outlined the diplomatic work that the UK is doing to ensure the world speaks with one voice in opposition to these appalling attacks," according to the spokesman.
Sunak emphasized his commitment to "making the Jewish community in the United Kingdom feel safe and secure at this time."
A series of attacks from Palestinian militants shocked Israel. The outdoor Nova Festival event in a rural farmland area near the Gaza-Israel border turned deadly after Gaza militants fired rockets at them, causing them to scatter.
The horrific incident was just one of several venues targeted on Saturday morning by Hamas militants in their most persistent and coordinated attack inside Israel.
