The Kenyan government has announced that the government will not renew a deal with Cuban doctors.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary (CS) Susan Nakhumicha, the country will instead count on local healthcare professionals who are up to the task.

"We have decided not to renew the agreement with the Cuban doctors. Our very own healthcare professionals are committed to the cause," Nakhumicha said.

Health CS then By signing a contract with Cuba, Sicily Kariuki made it possible for 100 of its medical professionals to work there.

In exchange, Kenya agreed to send 50 doctors to Cuba for family medicine training.

The Kenya Medical Association (KMA) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPPDU), two medical unions, opposed the decision.

They contended that rather than going outside for assistance, the state ought to have hired local medical care experts.
