Brian Mwenda Njagi, the fake lawyer who captivated kenyans on the internet, was detained after presenting himself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices on Kiambu Road.

In a statement released on the X, Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Eric Theuri stated that Brian is facing many allegations of forgery and identity theft.

He also stated that the lawyers' group will guarantee that Njagi is prosecuted to the full extent of the law and that the case will serve as an example to those who wish to follow in Njagi's footsteps.

"Brian Mwenda Njagi is now at DCI. We are going to ensure that he faces the full force of the Law. The evidence gathered so far points to several cases of forgery & identity theft. Further inquiries are ongoing. We are working closely with the DCI team to conduct thorough & extensive investigations. This case will be a deterrent for future masqueraders." he posted

Earlier, his lawyer, Danstan Omari, wrote to the DCI requesting permission to interview him on Wednesday.

In the letter, Omari stated that he was in court on another matter but that his client was eager to cooperate with inquiries.

"Our client has been made aware of the publicised controversies that have resulted from the Law Society of Kenya's recent announcements with the utmost concern." In addition to the foregoing, our client wishes to underline his categorical willingness to assist in any inquiries (if any) aimed at "setting the record straight," according to the letter.

“However, his advocate Danstan Omari is engaged at the Chief Magistrate's court at JKIA Law courts in MCCR E1137/2023: Republic V Handrianus Theodorus Putra and will avail his client tomorrow on the 18th day of October 2023 at noon. Our client like all citizens enjoys the constitutionally prescribed presumption of innocence and a right to counsel.”
