Residents of Kabuchai, Bungoma County, were shocked after a 45-year-old woman was struck by lightning while caring for her cows.
The area's local chief, Maurice Nyongesa, verified the occurrence and cautioned inhabitants to be cautious as El Nio rains continue to pound the country.
"I was told she went to bring back the grazing cows." "However, when she got close to another person, the lightning struck and struck her," Nyongesa explained.

Nyongesa was taken aback by the incident, noting that the lightning arrestors at Bwake were most likely defective.
"What has surprised everyone is that she was struck just a few meters from the lightning arrestors at Bwake High School." It's almost as if the arrestor is not functioning,” he continued.
The area chief has asked residents to exercise caution even as the rains continue and to avoid the towering trees throughout the storm.
"Those who live nearby should exercise caution. "People should avoid getting too close to that tree when it's raining," he said.
Nyongesa said the community would mourn with the affected family and has turned to religion to show his support for the bereaved family.
"We believe everything is in God's hands; only God knows about death," he said.
