Residents of Uasin Gishu County expressed concern over the rising level of insecurity in the area as a result of the poor attendance on Friday at Kipkaren Primary School, the site selected to host this year's Mashujaa Day celebrations.
The locals reported multiple incidents of armed attacks that resulted in property damage and fatalities.
They also protested the rise in muggings, carjackings, and break-ins, which they linked to a rise in juvenile drug and alcohol usage, and they called on law authorities to strengthen security in the area.

Nonetheless, residents were reassured by County Commissioner Dr. Edyson Nyale that security will be stepped up in advance of the Christmas celebrations.
President William Ruto served as the master of ceremonies for the country's Mashujaa Day celebrations, which were hosted at the Kericho Green Stadium.
Speaking during the event, President Ruto defended his decision to sign four bills pertaining to universal health coverage (UHC) into law, despite the fact that doing so will increase Kenyans' tax burden.
