The 24-year-old lady is claimed to have taken her cattle to graze, and the elderly man accuses her of doing so on his property without his permission.
The septuagenarian, only known as Auko, attacked the woman with a panga, prompting her to retaliate by slicing him in the hand.
"The matter is still under investigation, after which necessary action will be taken," the police chief said.
The elderly man is still in the hospital after the incident with his daughter-in-law.
Authorities have urged residents to look for other ways to resolve disagreements.
"I will lead a meeting with the family once the old man is discharged in efforts to reconcile the two," he said.
