The interior CS, Prof. Kithure Kindiki, has declared Monday, November 13, 2023, a public holiday for kenyans to participate in a nationwide tree-growing activity.

The CS stated in a gazette notice dated November 6 that President William Ruto will lead the country in the tree-growing operation as part of his administration's ambitious ambition to cultivate 10 billion trees by 2032.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Public Holidays Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration declares Monday, 13th November, 2023, a public holiday in which the public shall be engaged in tree growing countrywide," according to a part of the report.

"The exercise is part of Kenya's Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Programme, which aims to plant 15 billion trees." His Excellency (Dr.) William Samoei Ruto will preside over a designated National venue for tree planting."

The exercise will also be marked across the 47 counties presided over by Cabinet Secretaries and Governors, with all Kenyan citizens and members of the general public expected to participate.

The decision to proclaim November 13 a public holiday follows the Cabinet's decision on Friday, November 3, 2023, in Mombasa to safeguard the country from the disastrous impacts of Climate Change.

National examinations scheduled for that day will take place as usual.
