Two suspected robbers were shot dead in Kibra’s Laini Saba on Wednesday following a shootout with police from Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

“On November 22, 2023, Police Officers from Kilimani recovered a Berreta Pistol and several ammunition,” reads a police report.

This came shortly after detectives in Siaya successfully recovered two firearms believed to have been stolen earlier in the week during an armed ambush on police officers escorting KCSE examination papers to Mahero Secondary School.

The ambush occurred on Monday and resulted in the tragic death of an officer, while another sustained serious injuries.

The attack took place a short distance from the school after the security agents disembarked from the bus that transported them to collect the examination papers from Siaya County headquarters.

In response to the ambush, a joint team comprising the National Police Service (NPS) from Siaya, Busia, and DCI headquarters was deployed to track the assailants and retrieve the stolen firearms.

NPS Spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the successful recovery of an MP5 and an AK47 rifle during a morning operation in the Hawinga area.

The operation targeted the residence of one of the suspects, identified as Sheikh Rashid, who managed to evade the police dragnet.

“Upon knocking the door for the occupant to open, they instead started firing indiscriminately from the inside. The officers took cover, and a fierce firefight ensued, during which two unknown middle-aged men were fatally injured,” the police said.
