Azimio key supporter Nuru Okanga has been creating a buzz by taking the national examinations at the age of 32 and scoring more than 400 marks in KCPE.
Nuru Okanga, a well-known supporter of Azimio la Umoja, One Kenya Alliance, and a loyalist of Raila Odinga, reportedly took the examinations as a private student at Mumias Muslim Primary School in Kakamega County.
Following the release of the results, there was widespread curiosity about the scores achieved by Mr. Okanga in exams typically taken by students around the age of 13.
In an interview with NTV's Fridah Mwaka, Mr. Okanga disclosed that his education was facilitated and inspired by George Wajackoyah, the 2022 presidential candidate, who recognized a potential future leader in him.
“He told me I’m a leader but an uneducated leader won’t have good leadership. He told me you can be a leader because you know how to talk but he wanted me if I was voted to Parliament or Assembly, I would fight for my people well. As I am interested in a political seat in 2027, he told me I should go back to school and prepare myself even if it means doing the exams. He took me to a school, registered, and paid for me to sit the exams.
He had enlisted the help of a private teacher, and due to his extensive travels across the country, people often questioned when he found time to study. Mr. Okanga explained that he moved during the day and dedicated his nights to studying, even resorting to placing his feet in a cold bucket of water to stave off drowsiness. In the final two weeks leading up to the exams, he engaged in a rigorous study and revision marathon to refresh his understanding of the exam material.
Despite having dropped out after studying up to Standard Three due to challenging circumstances at home, Mr. Okanga intentionally chose to make his educational journey public when he sat for the exams. He aimed to preemptively address any potential accusations of forging results in the future.
As speculation about his KCPE 2023 results swirls on social media, Mr. Okanga asserted that he scored higher than the circulated 401 marks. However, he neither confirmed nor denied the accuracy of the posted marks, emphasizing that others had requested and posted them online without consulting him.
Mr. Okanga revealed his desire to pursue secondary education at Alliance Boys High School, with a sponsor already stepping forward to support him in this endeavor.
