Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has been ordered by Kakamega Small Claims Court to pay businessman Robert Lutta a debt of Ksh.500,000 plus interest and court costs.
The businessman had launched a case against the congressman, demanding that he reimburse the debt he had lent him on December 13, last year, with the promise that he would repay it in two months.
In court, he produced documentation from the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Mumias branch to verify that he wired the money to Salasya's bank account.

Lutta claimed, through his lawyer Edwin Wafula, that the MP refused to repay the debt.
Salasya, in his defense, denied borrowing money from the businessman and said he was the one who loaned the claimant Ksh.1 million through his political advisor, Mr. Bernard Kemba.
However, due to a lack of proof, Magistrate Gladys Kiama invalidated Salasya's reasoning in her verdict.
"I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his claim," she said.
Edwin Wafula said that his client was pleased with the result, claiming that justice had been served and that they were prepared to make the decision.
"We will be hoping that he settles the loan without undue duress from us, justice has prevailed, I believe in the course of law regardless of the position of someone in society, courts of law work based on evidence presented by either party," he said.
