A suspected chicken thief was on Tuesday morning lynched at Kamiigua village in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County.

Confirming the incident, police say locals dashed to the scene after a resident raised a distress call.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary.

The incident comes barely two days after two suspected thieves were set on fire in the county.

Angry residents of Kangai village in Mwea-west, Kirinyaga County on Sunday morning set on fire two suspected chicken thieves.

According to Damaris Wairimu, a resident in the area, the two were among three people who had stolen chicken.

An alarm was raised at around 3 am and the residents responded instantly, setting ablaze the two as one managed to escape.

Residents of Kirinyaga have decried increasing cases of chicken and livestock theft.
