Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has allegedly threatened to kill the magistrate who on Monday ordered him to pay a businessman Kes 500,000 that he owed.
Kakamega Small Claims Court Magistrate Gladys Kiama ordered Salasya to pay Robert Lutta a Kes 500,000 debt with interest and cost of the case after the businessman filed a case challenging the legislator to pay the money he lent him on December 13, 2022, with the agreement that he would repay after two months.
Following the ruling, Salasya is said to have confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her.
“At around 1230 hours while at Kakamega Law Courts, having delivered a judgement in a small claim matter vide case no. SSC E541/2023 against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency where he had been sued for failing to refund the money loaned to him by the claimant. He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,” reads a report filed at the Kakamega Police Station.
Police added that inquiries are underway to apprehend the MP and bring the proper charges against him.

Salasya asserted at the court on Monday that he was the one who gave Lutta the Kes 1 million loan through his political advisor Bernard Kemba, rejecting any borrowing from the businessman.
However, Magistrate Kiama rejected Salasya's claim for want of supporting documentation.
“I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his claim,” she said.
