The Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) has condemned Mumias East MP Peter Salasya for reportedly threatening to kill a magistrate who had ordered him to pay a businessman Ksh.500,000 in debt.
In a message to newsrooms issued by its President Derrick Kuto on Wednesday, the group called Salasya's behavior "stinking" and "out of order" given his position.
Mr. Kuto accused the congressman of posting cryptic information about the incident online after threatening the magistrate.

"In the strongest terms possible, we condemn Salasya's careless, Precambrian, and pedestrian action." He is a shame to this country. "He has devalued the office he holds," claimed the KMJA president.
Mr. Kuto lamented the vulnerable condition in which judges and magistrates find themselves, claiming that the incident is not isolated.
"Many of our members have been injured or killed in the line of duty, while others have been forced to resign." As a result, an attack on any of us is an attack on all of us," he continued.
As a result, the KMJA President demanded that the investigations concerning the lawmaker be completed as soon as possible, adding that he should bear the full brunt of the consequences of being a “bad entity for the society.”
"We hope that the government of Kenya, through its agencies, including the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, will understand our daily cries for providing security to our members," he said.
Salasya was ordered on Monday by Magistrate Gladys Kiama of the Kakamega Small Claims Court to pay Robert Lutta a Ksh.500,000 debt with interest and case costs after the businessman filed a case claiming he lent the legislator the money on December 13, 2022, with the agreement that he would repay after two months.
The Parliamentarian then followed the Magistrate outside the courthouse and threatened to kill her, according to reports, and the incident was reported to the Kakamega Police Station.
