Targeting unroadworthy automobiles all around the nation, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the National Police Service (NPS) began a cooperative operation on Friday.

This came about as a result of an order issued by Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen on Thursday, assigning the NTSA the duty of stopping drivers who are using their own vehicles as Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and driving vehicles that are not roadworthy.


"Joint NTSA NPS road safety enforcement exercise kicks off across the Country, following a directive on illegal PSV's by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen," NTSA stated in a statement issued on Friday.

The NTSA stated on Saturday that it has seized a number of cars for not complying with the necessary operational standards.

"The National Police and NTSA led a nationwide multi-agency operation that resulted in the impoundment of several public service vehicles (PSV) that were deemed unroadworthy. A statement from NTSA stated that "a number of others were unable to pass the inspection at NTSA motor vehicle inspection centers."
