Police officers are investigating the circumstances that led to the dumping of a 2-month-old baby in the bush at Gitwe village in Kanyekiine, Kirinyaga Central.
Kirinyaga County Fire Department John Kiama noted that the baby was found just moments before nightfall lying in the bush.
According to witnesses, two girls from the area first spotted the baby boy.
“The girls informed their parents, who later informed police officers in Kirinyaga.”
Locals contacted the area chief, informing him that a baby was found crying in the bush.

“We first thought that the abandoned baby’s mother was around. After some time, we suspected that she dumped the baby and left,” a resident said.
“We frantically searched the area in effort to locate the baby’s mother."
Police officers from Kirinyaga arrived at the scene, and the baby was taken to Kerugoya Referral Hospital.
“The baby is in good hands. The nurses at the hospital attended to the infant,” Kiama added.
Police noted that investigations are ongoing to trace the boy’s mother.
