Two fishermen were lucky to be alive after their boat capsized while they were fishing in Lake Victoria near Rabolo-Ralayo beach in Rarieda sub-county.

According to Evans Omondi, the sub-county fisheries officer, the two fishermen were on their routine fishing trip on Tuesday evening when their boat was attacked by heavy winds and capsized.

The fishermen had lifesavers to keep them going as they waited for a rescue squad from the fisheries department to come and save them.

Omondi added that if the two fishermen had not been wearing life jackets, they would have drowned because their boat was submerged in water.

Fishermen have been instructed to bring life jackets on trips, especially during El Nino season.
