Residents in Nyandarua County are seeking compensation from the Kenya Wildlife Service after an attack by wild animals left over 40 sheep dead.
They have urged the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to control wildlife wreaking havoc on their homes.
Locals, the majority of whom are farmers, reported on Wednesday evening that they had to incur huge losses when animals were attacked and killed by an animal they suspected to be a leopard.
According to the group, the wild animal attacks homes at night, and people only wake up to find their livestock dead.
“We have alerted the relevant authorities to take action, but still nothing has been done. We are frustrated,” one farmer said.
“Sometimes when we make a report, we are told that it is probably a rabid dog that is killing our livestock, but that is not the case.”
Residents have now urged the government to compensate them for livestock losses and to take action to avert future tragedies.
