Police in Florida are investigating a case where a 23-year-old woman was shot dead on Christmas Eve after an argument with her younger brothers about Christmas presents.

The two teenage boys were detained shortly following the cold-blooded murder, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Bob Gualtieri revealed in a news conference that Abrielle Baldwin was shot in the chest by her 14-year-old brother while she was carrying her baby in a carrier.

The shooting occurred after the three siblings, their mother, and Ms Baldwin's two sons went Christmas shopping.

They then proceeded to their grandmother's house and were "involved in a verbal altercation over Christmas gifts," according to the sheriff.

"They had this family spat about who was getting what and what money was being spent on who," he said.

Damarcus Coley, 14, was irritated that his 15-year-old brother, Darcus Coley, received more gifts than he did. According to the Sheriff, Ms Baldwin tried to calm down the two brothers by stating, "It's Christmas."

The 14-year-old then threatened to shoot his sister "and shoot the baby too" before firing the gun and striking her in the chest, according to the sheriff.

The elder sister was shot and injured, and she instantly dropped to the ground, but the 11-month-old was unharmed since she was in a carrier.

The teen shooter was then shot by his 15-year-old brother, who threw away the pistol and fled, according to the sheriff.

The younger brother is in stable condition in the hospital, but Ms Baldwin was pronounced deceased. The mother-of-two suffered internal bleeding and was unable to breathe.
