The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is requesting that five suspects apprehended in connection with the death of Meru County blogger Daniel Muthiani, aka Sniper, be held for 21 days.

The DCI claims in court records that the 21-day period will allow them to complete investigations, even though more people have yet to be arrested.

"The investigations team is seeking vital information... more other suspects who were involved in the murder are yet to be arrested," states one of the court documents.

According to detectives, the deceased was enticed by the five suspects via a phone call claiming that Governor Mwangaza wanted to meet with him.

Sniper went missing on December 2, 2023, and his body was recovered on December 16, 2023.

A post-mortem examination of the deceased's body at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary in Tharaka Nithi, Meru County, found that he died as a result of strangling.

The sniper had marks on his neck and showed evidence of having been deprived of air, according to government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who conducted the examination.

He also suffered shattered ribs and head injuries, implying that he was strangled before being thrown into a river.

Following his death, leaders condemned the cold-blooded murder, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki threatening strong punishment against those responsible.
