The 2024 Africa Cup of Nations winners will receive a record seven million dollars (approximately Sh. 1.2 billion), according to a statement released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday.

It is 40% more than Senegal received for winning the previous tournament in Cameroon two years ago.

The runners-up in Ivory Coast, which will host the best African football competition from January 13 to February 11, will receive $4 million.

According to the announcement, losing semi-finalists receive $2.5 million apiece, and quarter-finalists receive 1.3 million each.

The Ivory Coast and 23 other countries, including Egypt, will compete for glory in West Africa.

The two-time winners Ivory Coast face Guinea-Bissau, who have not won in three previous outings, in the tournament opener on January 13 at Abidjan's 60,000-seater Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
