Dickens Wasonga, who works for the Star newspaper, has died in an accident near the Mamboleo overpass on the Kisumu-Kakamega road.
According to Nyanza Regional Traffic Officer Allan Mwangi, the late Wasonga, a Kisumu County resident, rammed a moving trailer while driving his vehicle.
He claimed that both vehicles traveled in the same direction during the collision.
The body of the journalist is currently at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) mortuary.
National authorities, including ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and his colleagues, have since paid tribute.
“Dickens was a very easy-going person, a team player, forthright and very cooperative and exhibited a lot of professionalism in everything that he did. As an industry we have lost a very integral member of the family,” CS Owalo said.
The wreckage of his car was transported to Kondele Police Station.
