More than fifteen families are homeless in the Bongo area of Nyandarua after heavy rains uprooted at least five trees, which then fell on their residential homes.
The rains also wreaked havoc on crops, with the area, Nyakio Ward MCA Zack Njeru reporting that a falling tree killed a cow during the incident.
"We are very shocked at the damage that the heavy rains have caused here. One woman's house was completely destroyed by the rains, and we do not know what to do now that she is homeless,” he said.
The MCA urged well-wishers to help those rendered homeless as soon as possible, as they could face long, cold nights in the open.
