According to China's Supreme Court, the father, Zhang Bo, began an affair with Ye Chengchen and originally concealed the fact that he was married with children. However, Ye discovered the truth, and Zhang divorced his wife.
The court heard that Ye viewed Zhang's two children as an "obstacle" to their marriage and a "burden on their future life together. "
She frequently pressured Zhang to kill the kids, threatening to end their relationship if he did not.
According to the court, Zhang conspired with Ye and threw his two-year-old daughter and one-year-old son from his 15th-floor flat when they were playing close to the bedroom window in November 2020, killing both.
Zhang and Ye were sentenced to death in December 2021.
The Supreme People's Court stated the couple's act "seriously challenged the legal and moral bottom line," calling their illegal purpose "extremely despicable" and the means "particularly cruel," according to state news agency Xinhua.
