Police in Kocharo village, Rarieda sub-county, have launched an investigation into the horrific death of an 86-year-old grandmother who died as a result of a house fire.
Helidah Nyangweso was burned to death after a fire broke out in her home at 10.30 a.m.
According to Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo, the woman's son Zedekiah Ouma reported the incident to the Luanda Kotieno Police Post.
According to Ouma, the grandmother was alone when the fire broke out. When she screamed, the son hurried to the house, which was already engulfed in flames.

Kimaiyo further stated that when Ouma arrived at the house that was on fire, he discovered that his mother had been burned while sleeping in her bed. He battled and was able to remove her while still alive.
However, the woman died while they attempted to offer first aid to her.
Police officers from Luanda Kotieno arrived at the scene and determined that the victim died as a result of the burns.
Kimaiyo confirmed the occurrence but indicated that the fire's origin remains unknown.
The deceased was brought to the Madiany sub-county hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
