Nairobi regional commander Adamson Bungei has confirmed there is no fresh gas leak in Embakasi’s Mradi village after the gas explosion tragedy that has left six people dead and others injured.
During a visit to the explosion site on Monday, Bungei maintained that there is no cause for alarm as the security apparatus in Nairobi has taken charge of the situation.
“I want to assure other members of the public that their safety is assured and have ransacked this area and there is no container that still has gas in it. All of them are empty,” he said.
This comes after Embakasi residents reported suspected gas leakage at the scene of the gas explosion on Monday morning.

According to Embakasi Police Commander Wesley Kimetto, they received reports from members of the public that there was gas leakage from the site where an incident happened.
Kimetto said his initial assessment at the location did not ascertain that there was a gas leakage.
The police have now contacted Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) officials, who are on their way to confirm whether the place had an underground tank and check if it is leaking
On his part, Nairobi County secretary Patrick Analo assured that they have taken all precautionary measures to avert a similar experience as the one witnessed a few days ago, announcing that the county had already started evacuating people from that site over fears of a fresh explosion.
“We have been made aware of a suspected new gas leak in the area where the incident happened on Thursday night, in Mradi Estate, Embakasi East. A multi agency team led by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and the County disaster team are investigating this,” he said
“The area has been secured and precautionary measures including evacuation of neighboring residences have been taken. All County Government Emergency services are on high alert and standby at the scene to provide the necessary support,” he said.
