A young couple was attacked by a lion on Tuesday night while attempting to get firewood at Elsa Ntirim village in Isiolo County. They have requested that the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) handle stray animals.
The couple survived the attack after fending off the lion with a panga, but not before suffering severe injuries; they are currently receiving care at the Isiolo County Referral Hospital.
Michael Apayu, one of the victims, claimed that the wild animal had first mauled his wife before attacking him.
After his spouse, Susan Chebet struck the lion's head with a panga, the enraged animal charged at her, biting into her legs.

"The lion first chased my wife, who was behind me; she later ran ahead of me, and then the lion proceeded to attack me. It bit my hands, legs, back, and shoulders," said Apayu.
Apayu struck the animal's eyes and front limb, forcing the couple to flee.
"After I struck the lion's head with a panga, it leaped for me. My spouse was able to stand up and strike the lion in the eyes and front limb. We were able to escape after the lion fell," Chebet remarked.
One of the victims' sisters, Hellen Natukun, condemned the incident and urged the KWS to ensure that all wild animals were kept in the reserves.
According to the KWS, "all wild animals should be contained in reserves and national parks. Peoplemove every day, so they should react if they discover that the animals have left the reserves," according to Natukun.
Furthermore, claiming that the KWS is having difficulty paying the victims' outstanding medical bills, Natukun urged them to provide compensation.
The attack occurred a few days after a hyena on Monday at 8 p.m. along Maasai Lodge Road attacked 21-year-old Multimedia University student Kelvin Mwendwa.
In a statement released on Tuesday, KWS stated that human remains had been found at the location of the hyena attack incident.
"Regrettably, another Problem Animal Management Unit (PAMU) team left on the ground discovered the partial remains of a human being at the scene, which were then retrieved by the Kenya Police. The identity of the deceased has since been confirmed, and family members have been contacted," said KWS.
