Governor Johnson Sakaja has reported that over100 liquor stores have been closed, and 25 people have been arrested as part of a crackdown in Nairobi County's Starehe sub-county.
Sakaja said that the Nairobi Liquor Department, Security and Compliance, and National Police conducted a coordinated operation targeting six bus terminals.
Teams were dispatched to the Country Bus Station, Muthurwa Terminus, Hakati Bus Station Terminus, Accra Road Terminus, Latema Road Terminus, and Old National Roundabout.

Ten joints were closed at Country Bus; four people were arrested, 20 at Muthurwa, and 23 at Hakati station; nine were detained.
Twenty-seven joints were closed at the Accra road terminus, with eight people detained; 18 joints were closed on Latema Road; and 22 outlets were closed at Old Nation, with six people arrested.
The operation follows Sakaja's instruction to close all wine and spirit establishments near sub-county terminals.
The county boss expressed worry about an increase in road crashes linked to drunk driving during a meeting with the Matatu Owners Association (MOA) and officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA)
He said the decision was made after obtaining a report from the NTSA documenting the number of deaths in the county and the causes, which he said were primarily related to alcohol.
Sakaja said drivers and touts spend most of their time in these wine and alcohol establishments, which have evolved into bars and drinking dens while waiting for customers.
