Following new accusations by Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Meru County finds itself in a difficult situation again.
Officially, Mutuma has stated that he wants to step down as deputy governor, according to Governor Mwangaza.
"We are operating in a very hostile environment in Meru and as deputy governor I have said time and again that things are escalating from bad to worse," Mutuma stated.
He continued by saying that Mwangaza had been contacting him via her proxies and insisted that he resign from his job in exchange for a severance payout.

"Mama Governor through her proxies are sending threats to me, telling me that mama is proposing that I resign and get the package to engage in other issues out there," Mutuma continued.
The most recent conflict is one of many that have engulfed Meru County since the general election in August 2022. The Meru County Assembly attempted to remove Governor Mwangaza from office twice, but the Senate ultimately decided to restore her.
The Senate dismissed the MCA's accusations of her being corrupt and arrogant.
On her side, Mwangaza asserted that some influential individuals are dissatisfied with her leadership and are trying to remove her from office.
