Two members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group of Somali origin have been sentenced to 19 years in prison for their involvement in a plot to bomb the Nairobi Milimani Law Courts.
The duo, identified as Abadi Majit Hassan Adan and Mohammed Osman Nane, was found guilty on multiple charges, including possession of firearms without a license and conspiracy to commit terrorist acts.
They were arrested in Isiolo in 2018, leading to a lengthy trial during which the prosecution presented evidence from 45 witnesses.
Presiding Magistrate Zainab Abdul emphasized the gravity of the offense, stressing the potentially catastrophic consequences had the plot been executed.
Due to the seriousness of the charges, the defendants were denied bail and remained incarcerated at the Industrial Area prison throughout the trial.

Apart from the pair of terrorists, Lydia Nyawira Mburu was found guilty due to her involvement in the plot.
Mburu was sentenced to three years in jail for having fabricated paperwork about the Somali suspects' apprehension.
Prosecuting Attorney Allen Mulama emphasized the terrible effects of terrorism on the nation and urged the court to apply harsh punishments to dissuade future terrorists.
The goal of the sentence is to make it abundantly evident that such behavior will not be accepted and that there will be prompt and severe judicial repercussions.
