Kiambu Court has acquitted former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko of assault in a case stemming from a 2019 raid on a private property in Buruburu, Nairobi.
He was accused of assault causing actual bodily harm in contravention of Section 251 of the Penal Code on May 25, 2019, at Buruburu Phase 4 in Kamukunji Sub-County within Nairobi county.
The prosecution accused the former Nairobi Governor of unlawfully leading a group of men in assaulting multiple individuals, including Evans Obaga, George Chege, Paul Kahiga, Charles Karori, Alex Kioko, Stephen Ouma, Musyoki Kavunda, John Mungai Wanjiru, and Joel Kinja Muthui in a case filed in 2021,
The charge was presented in multiple counts, indicating multiple instances of assault.
Sonko welcomed the acquittal on Monday, terming his numerous court battles as a stepping stone to the “future.”
