The Senate plenary will commence hearing and deciding on the proposed impeachment of Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda on Wednesday.
This comes after the Senate resolved to alter its meeting schedule for Wednesday and Thursday, marking the final day for the Senate to vote on whether to support or oppose Monda’s impeachment.
The House Majority Leader, Aaron Cheruiyot, proposed the approved motion to amend the meeting hours.
Senators will convene for both morning and afternoon sessions over the two days.
“Morning sitting will commence at 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and the afternoon sittings will start at 2.30 pm until the conclusion of business listed on the order paper of the day.”

The Deputy Governor was impeached on February 29, 2024, by members of the Kisii County Assembly amid accusations of abuse of office and bribery.
At the beginning of Wednesday’s hearing session, Senators will discuss the accusations brought against the Kisii Deputy Governor before allowing the ward representatives to present their case on the floor of the House.
Subsequently, the Kisii Deputy Governor will be granted the chance to respond and offer a defense before Senators decide whether to uphold or reject the impeachment charges.
The House chose to settle the impeachment investigation in a plenary session after their attempt on March 7, 2024, to establish a special committee for the inquiry, which fell through due to lack of support.
