Fire razed Sugar Cane worth Kes 7.5 million at the Chemilil Sugar Company fields in 16 hectares of land on Saturday at around 1:00 pm.
According to a police report, the sugarcane plantation was 12 months old at the time of destruction.
“The following farm blocks were destroyed by the fire, the D26 Estimated to 6.4 hectares, D27 Estimated to 6.5 hectares, C27 Estimated to 3.1 hectares. The total hectares burnt is 16 hectares a value at about 7.5 million shillings,” read the report.
Following the incident, officers from the Chemelil Police Post and Chemelil Sugar Company Limited put out the fire.
An investigation into the incident has since commenced.
