Five people died on Monday following a collision between a public service vehicle and a tractor along the Olonguruone-Silibwet road in Bomet’s Mugango area.
The matatu was traveling from Olenguruone towards Bomet when it swerved out of its lane and crashed into the tractor.
According to police, 18 other people are nursing severe injuries at Tenwek Mission Hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident occurred due to the matatu driver’s failure to maintain their lane, resulting in the tragic collision.
“It happened that the driver was driving his motor vehicle from Olenguruone heading towards Bomet general direction and on reaching at the location of the accident, the driver of the matatu failed to keep to his proper lane and rammed into the tractor,” read the police report.

Both vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Bomet Police Station for further investigation.
In na separate incident, at least Eleven students of Kenyatta University students were killed, and 21 others were critically injured when their college bus collided with a truck in the Maungu region near Voi on the Nairobi-Mombasa route.
Dasala Ibrahim, the Voi sub-county police commandant, said those injured were sent to nearby hospitals.
The bus was transporting students to Mombasa for an academic trip. Dasala reported that 42 pupils were in various hospitals, with four more still missing.
