Police have launched an investigation into the death of Mbita Sub County Deputy Commissioner Moranga Morekwa, whose body was found in his official residence on Tuesday in Homa Bay County.
According to Homa Bay County Commissioner Moses Lilan, police say a preliminary investigation shows it had no physical injuries.
“He did not demonstrate any signs of a person who could die soon,” he said.
Morekwa had been actively engaged in official duties until Monday.
Just days prior, on Friday, officials said he was leading a multi-agency government team in conducting raids on unlicensed bars.

His presence and leadership in enforcing law and order in the sub-county were widely recognized, and Lilan described him as a “cornerstone officer.”
A postmortem is scheduled to be conducted during the week as part of efforts to shed light on the cause of his death.
Morekwa had served as the Deputy Commissioner in Mbita since June of the previous year, following his transfer from similar posts in Tana North and Kajiado West Sub Counties.
